The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has reported that the erroneous tax exemption granted to the South Asian University (SAU) registrar has resulted in a loss of over Rs 90 lakh to the exchequer. The PAC noted that a gazette notification by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) wrongly extended privileges to the registrar, causing the loss. The report recommended the creation of a 'Procedural Standards Cell' to prevent such errors in the future.
