An SC Constitution bench will on January 2, the first day of business after winter break, deliver its judgment on a bunch of petitions which had challenged the Union government’s November 8, 2016 decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. All 58 petitions are listed for judgment on January 2 before an SC bench. Most petitions challenged the validity of demonetisation while some sought fresh window for exchanging scrapped notes which could not be exchanged within deadline.

CUET-PG to be conducted from June 1-10 next year
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct CUET-PG from June 1 to 10 next year. The application process will start in mid-March. According to UGC Chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar, the second edition of the Common University Entrance Test for admission to post graduate courses in universities will be conducted in June. UGC had already announced the schdeule for CUET-UG test which will be conducted in May.

The highly transmissible BF.7 Omicron variant of Covid-19 was highly unlikely to trigger another “wave” in the country, experts said, suggesting India should redefine a “surge or wave” to avoid panic in case localised or sporadic rise in caseloads is detected.
