Delhi Police’s action govt bid to shift focus from Adani row: Congress

ith Delhi Police visiting him twice in three days seeking details of his comments during the Bharat Jodo Yatra about women facing sexual violence, Congress member Rahul Gandhi termed the action “unprecedented” and asked the cops if their new-found urgency was related to the stand he has taken on Adani issue, even as Congress condemned the action as vendetta aimed at terrorising the leader.

Barely 6-9% of traffic fines raised through e-challans realised

Traffic rule enforcement agencies across the country have recovered barely 6-9% of the fines slapped through e-challans on drivers and vehicle owners, government data for the past three years show. In 2020, against Rs 1,375-crore fines imposed for flouting traffic rules, the agencies recovered only Rs 125 crore, only 9% of the total challan amount.

Daily Covid cases cross 1,000 after 130 days; 19 deaths in 7 days, up from 6 last week

A week after hitting the 500 mark, daily cases of Covid-19 in India crossed 1,000 on Saturday for the first time in 130 days, as the case count, which has been inching up for five weeks, rose more sharply in the past seven days. While west and south India accounted for most of the new cases, infections have started rising in the north as well.

LAC situation in eastern Ladakh very fragile: EAM Jaishankar

Training plane crashes in MP, both pilots killed

A training aircraft crashed in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday afternoon, killing both pilots — captain Mohit Thakur from Himachal Pradesh and V Maheshwari, a trainee from Gujarat. The plane, a Diamond DA-40, operated by the National Flying Training Institute (NFTI), had taken off from Birsi airport in Gondia district of Maharashtra, and crashed approximately 40km away in a dense forest in Balaghat.

Women paid less than men for same work in towns and villages

Market determined wages for similar work are significantly lower for women compared with those of men in both rural and urban India. What is worse is that the gap has widened in rural areas over the last decade though it has narrowed in the towns. These are survey findings just released by the National Statistical Office in the form of a report, Women and Men In India 2022.
