NIA attaches house of key conspirator in 2022 Srinagar arms seizure case

The NIA attached the house of Aamir Mushtaq Ganaie, a key conspirator in the 2022 arms seizure case in Srinagar. Ganaie, associated with TRF, was using the residential property for conspiring and committing terror crimes. The case is part of a larger conspiracy related to drone-dropping of weapons by a Pakistan-based module. Ganaie was one of the masterminds involved. The NIA had earlier arrested Faisal Muneer, who delivered the weapons to Ganaie for carrying out targeted killings. The accused were also engaged in radicalising the youth to join terror outfits in Kashmir.

Lashkar terrorist who targeted Pandits & migrants killed in Shopian

A Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist, Bilal Ahmed Bhat, involved in a series of killings of soldiers, migrant workers, and Pandits, was gunned down in an encounter in Kashmir's Shopian district. Bhat fired on the police, army, and CRPF personnel during a cordon-and-search operation. His body was seized along with a large cache that included an AK rifle and magazines. Bhat, a resident of Shopian, unleashed a spate of attacks last year, targeting various people. He lured local youths to take up terrorism and even killed a fellow terrorist.

05k undertrial jumps from running train, dies in Etawah

An undertrial, Sonu Kumar Das, died after jumping from the Swatantrata Senani Express in a bid to escape police custody. He was being taken from Delhi to Bihar when the incident occurred. Das, who was accused of murdering his wife, had recently escaped from the sub-divisional jail in Benipur, Darbhanga. He died after his head crashed into an OHE pole. The body has been sent for postmortem. The local police and Government Railway Police are investigating the matter.

State schools lack special educators

Despite a 2021 Supreme Court ruling which mandates the appointment of special educators in government schools, Telangana is yet to have them onboard. The state sanctioned about 1,523 posts for this role in August this year. However, hiring is nowhere in sight, say special educators.​Presently, Bhavitha centres set up at mandal level under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan scheme caters to special need kids, and these centres have 250 vacancies. Meanwhile, parents say that the education department should implement the mandates of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the supreme court ruling.

Why a healthy democracy needs getting electoral literacy

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has included chapters on electoral literacy in school textbooks to familiarize students with their roles and responsibilities as future voters. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Ministry of Education to include relevant study material. The curriculum, starting from 2024-25, will educate students about the election process and the importance of voting. The collaboration aims to empower young people by bridging the knowledge gap among the youth and first-time voters.

Rights body frowns at Maharashtra chief secretary's "apathy" on trans persons complaint

The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission is taking action against the State chief secretary for not appearing before it regarding a complaint about discrimination faced by transgender persons. The Commission is considering penal action under section 166 A of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint seeks the implementation of The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 and awareness about the differences between Hijras and other transgender persons. The trust also requests the government to highlight these differences through physical and social media.

As the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is nearing, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has appealed to the youth of the Muslim community to be watchful of the activities done by the BJP-led Centre. J&K Police announces reward up to Rs 12L to curb ‘anti-national activities’

In an attempt to curb ‘anti-national activities’ in the Union Territory, the J&K Police has announced cash reward of up to Rs 12.50 lakh for people who provide information and intelligence on trans-border tunnels, drones, narcotics, terror activities and terrorists. The cash reward for providing information about trans-border tunnels used by anti-national elements is Rs 5 lakh, according to the J&K Police. Further, the police announced Rs 3 lakh reward for those who sight drones from the across the border and provide information about the same.
