Ranajit Guha, historian of the subaltern, passes away

Historian Ranajit Guha’s death at his Austria home on Saturday, a month before his 100th birthday, has left the academic community in India and across the world remembering the icon’s enormous influence in shaping post-colonial history in south Asia. Guha’s influence was not limited to any school of history but revolutionised diverse streams of social sciences, with his approach to highlighting the lives of the marginalised.

Operation Kaveri: 186 Indians take off from Jeddah in Kochi-bound flight, 3,000 leave Sudan so far

As Operation Kaveri is underway, the Kochi-bound ninth flight departed from Jeddah with 186 passengers. "9th outbound flight departs from Jeddah. 186 passengers onboard this flight are flying to Kochi," Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted. Earlier, EAM Jaishankar, on Sunday, said that nearly 2300 evacuees Indians have reached India.

After 20 hours under rubble, man rescued on birthday

After 20 agonising hours of being trapped under the debris following the Bhiwandi building crash, labourer Sunil Pisal (32) was safely rescued on Sunday, which was also his birthday. When NDRF and Thane Disaster Relief Force personnel extracted Pisal from the rubble around 8am, he was conscious and thanked them with folded hands for giving him a second life. His relatives and friends cheered on as he was taken to hospital.

Three families lose 10 members in Gyaspura gas tragedy in Ludhiana

In a tragic incident, 11 people were killed and four injured as they inhaled a toxic gas in Ludhiana’s Giaspura neighbourhood on Sunday morning. Ten of those killed belong to three families from Bihar, who had been living in Punjab for over two-three decades, and one person is yet to be identified.
