Unicef allays fears on rise in measles cases

Measles cases are not expected to get out of control in India despite a spike in number of cases in some regions, chief of health at Unicef-India Luigi D'Aquino has said. India has reported more than 12,000 cases of measles so far this year - highest in four years. "“Areas with identified measles outbreaks should be reached with a comprehensive intervention consisting of MR vaccination and vitamin A supplementation," he said.

CJI Chandrachud-led collegium to nominate 56% of SC's sanctioned strength

Justice D Y Chandrachud’s two-year tenure as CJI will see induction of at least 19 new Supreme Court judges, five more than the number appointed to the apex court during his father Y V Chandrachud’s record tenure of seven years and five months as CJI. CJI Chandrachud-led collegium’s immediate task is to fill seven vacancies in the SC, whose sanctioned strength is 34 judges including the CJI.

Bilkis case: 'Convicts didn't tell SC that HC had junked similar pleas'

Rape survivor Bilkis Bano on Wednesday requested the Supreme Court for an open court hearing of her plea for review of the SC's May 13 judgment allowing Gujarat to consider the remission pleas of 11 lifers, guilty of gang-raping many and murdering 14 during the 2002 communal riots in the state. The covnicts concealed from the apex court the fact that the Gujarat HC had twice rejected similar pleas, she said.

India saw very low number of Covid vax clotting cases: Govt

The Centre informed the Supreme Court that India had a very low incidence of Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) cases of Thrombosis and Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS) during administration of 220 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines. It said till September 30 this year India has administered 219.9 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine. A total 26 AEFI cases of TTS were reported, of which 14 recovered and 12 died.
